Still frabjous...

Married life is wonderful. In other words, it's not really much different than pre-married life, except that I have more thank-you notes to write.

We got back from Powell River late on Friday and spent the weekend recovering from camping and getting back into our rhythm of daily life. Oh, and getting better from being sick. Yes, still sick. But getting better, slowly.

I realy will get this blog properly updated. I have so much to say about the wedding, and about our mini-moon, and about... well, about everything. Feel free to skip large chunks; there really is just so much to say.

But... later. Not now. Work was pretty intense today, and I'm up WAY too late tonight getting some stuff done. I need photos from Steve and a little bit more clear desk to think properly. I'm working on all that (especially Steve!), and will post once I get everything in a row.

A few little things, though:

Seeing Fab & Janet's daughter, Lauren, petting Angel so nicely on the floor with one of the triplets (Justin?) in the middle of crowds of people was a perfect snippet.

Standing at the back of the room and looking over the sparkling glasses and twinkling lights and beautiful flowers and thinking "this could not be more perfect." It really could not have been more perfect. Really.

Dancing to the old-time-y music... hearing Di's harp as we were peeking around the corner to see when to come in... Steve's napkin + fire incident (I sacrificed my glass of Pelegrino)... watching people try out the fortune-telling fish... a chocolate-covered strawberry... the astonishingly fast clean-up when everyone pitched in... it was marvelous.

Marvelous.
Magical.
Sparkling.
Rustic-ly elegant.
A fun party!
I'm glad I was invited :-)

The dust has settled...

Ok, the mud has settled.

This is a short post to advise that everything went perfect. Absolutely perfect. In, of course, a not-too-perfect kind of way.

In brief: it rained, or it might have rained, or we might have lost our minds wondering if it was going to rain, so we decided to have the ceremony in the hall itself. Our contingency plan worked a treat and, in the end, it was a WAY better decision to have the ceremony in the hall than on the pier. In fact, it was magical.

The ceremony was beautiful. Steve cried. Ok, I cried a little, too.

The dinner was delicious and the cake was very un-wedding-cake-like. In other words, it was delicious, too! Mmm... cake!

Our friends Andie and Cas took photos and they were brilliant.

Steve and I danced together to Barabara Lee and Diana doing "Rickie's Waltz" which was WAY better than the unoperational iPod.

Being surrounded by family and friends -- our community -- on our wedding day made it so special. We were humbled by the generosity and warmth and love in that room.

Thank you to everyone who came. To those who could not make it, we thought of you.

Callooh, callay!

The frabjous day is almost upon us, and I realized I haven't updated this blog in quite some time. I suck.

Well, actually, I'm sick. I've followed up my lung infection in January with bronchitis in May... I'm not sure what karmic faux pas I've committed to be sick three days before the wedding, but obviously I've made some gaff. Oh well! The show must go on.

The last two weeks pre-sick have actually been pretty great. My work threw me a shower/drinks after work last Wednesday, which was a tonne of fun. Fonne?

We then went to Jody & Julia's wedding in Victoria on Saturday, which was lovely. The rooms they had for the ceremony and reception were amazing, and they were blessed with wonderful weather.

We're a little anxious about the weather, truth be known. Last Friday, the forecast was for cloudy periods and 10% chance of rain; by Monday it was rain with rainy periods and 90% chance of rain. Right now it seems to be for showers and 40-60% chance of rain, but the forecast also seems to change hourly, so we're going to play it by ear and decide on Saturday. No problem!

Gayle's bridge group threw me a surprise (and I was surprised!) shower on Sunday. I'd been rolling around with the triplets, grass in my hair, when off we went to a "restaurant in Point Roberts for tea" aka "Cathy's house for a shower". It was actually very wonderful, and so unexpected! I was quite overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. Thank you!

And... Monday morning I woke up sick. Just coughing, no other cold symptoms, and the doctor thinks it's bronchitis. He's given me some precautionary antibiotics -- ordinarily I don't believe in taking unncessary antibiotics, and I know bronchitis is viral, but these are to head any infections (likely) off at the pass.

My mum, Aunt Joan and sister Alex are all here, helping assemble favour bags and anything else my fevered mind can come up with. Thank goodness for helpful family! Their new Jeep looks like a little Hummette. My dad is driving the tiny Jeepette down tomorrow (slowly and carefully).

Also tomorrow we pick up the clothes, the rings, the flowers and the key to the hall. I also have a massage and a haircut. I know it's a little late for a haircut, but at my trim a few weeks ago, the woman just didn't trim out the layers which means I have spaniel head. So the manager at the salon is going to fix it, thank goodness. Mmm... spaniel head.

I'm drinking my Neocitran (tm) and contemplating bed. Ah, yes. Bed.

If I don't get a chance to post again before the Big Day, thanks to everyone who has followed this blog, and I look forward to meeting many of you on Saturday. I will continue to use this as my blog, since every day being married to my wonderful Steve will be a frabjous day. Awww... have no fear: sick or not, I am still darn excited to be getting married!

Mmm... bed...

'Til death do us part...

On Sunday afternoon, we were walking down on the shore path in lower Gibsons when we ran across the brother of our previous downstairs neighbour. When we lived in the house with the crazy landlady, Mona and her son lived below us, and Blaine -- her brother -- visited often. In fact, without knowing either of us, he pitched in a strong and tireless hand to help us move in in the first place.

So. We came up on Blaine, who was sitting on a park bench with a beer and a cigarette. We stopped to say 'hi' with at least a little trepidation as drunk Blaine was sometimes a little volatile. Turned out he wasn't volatile at all: he told us how nice it was to see us together as we were one of the nicest couples, and so beautiful together, and so in love, and we warmed his heart.

When we told him we were getting married, he was just estatic. He told us to hold on to it, and came over a bit emotional... he said he was married to his second wife for 18 years before she died in a car accident. This explains so much -- why Blaine, who is sociable and kind and good-hearted would drink so much, and seem to have a limited social circle, and why Mona, who bore the brunt of his outbursts, would have given him so much slack.

We left, hand in hand and dog behind, in great realization that we are very, very lucky to have found what we have in each other, and that our priority should be preserving and enjoying it, as life is short and unpredictable.

*sigh*

It's almost as if the worst thing about being in love is that you know it would hurt so very much to lose your partner. It's unthinkable, unbelievable... but still. Sometimes a reminder to cherish each other every day, every minute, is good. Not that we don't, but I want our 18th year and our 50th year to be just as precious as this past one has been.

A woman came into the office the other day and headed right over to my desk. She sat down and said that she came in three months ago for insurance, and since those three months were up, I should be getting married any minute! And yes, I am! Was? Will be? I thought it was so sweet, but weddings really do seem to bring out the best in people. I do hope that trend continues, as I know weddings can also bring out the stresses, especially in families.

I had lovely chats with my cousins Debbie & Anita. I don't know if they'll be able to make it, but I know their hearts will be with me. We've had a few people trickle off the RSVP list, but I think we'll still end up with 80-90, which is what we expected. Hey! If you haven't RSVP'd yet, it would be great if you did!

There's still lots to do, but it's all managable. I'm dropping off cake plates for the baker tomorrow and the ring for sizing next week; shoes and undies will be this weekend (but if I don't find any, there's some on the Coast I like).

I've also made time for some important sanity-preserving measures: I've planted some flowers (though they may all be drowned in the thundery deluge this afternoon), we've gone on walks, and tonight I had a heavenly massage. Yay!

We've received a few gifts in the mail and I'm so humbled by people's generosity.

Oh, and I'm tired and babbling.

Goodnight! And give your loved ones an extra hug, 'k?
